Abstract

The study of the Venetian commedia umanistica must be considered in relation to the background of intellectual activity. The relationship between humanists and festive culture shows that Venetian theatre remained insular, proposing neither a reinstatement of classical theatre nor a humanist festive theatre; literary restoration became decisive for theatrical definition and possibilities.
